FOOD IN PHUKET: TOM YUM KOONG 2

Tom Yum Goong-min

Address: 58 Kata Rd, Tambon Karon, Amphoe Mueang Phuket, Chang Wat Phuket 83100, Thailand

We decided to give this restaurant a shot as it was one of the more highly rated restaurants in Kata. It is located right outside of our hotel (Kata Palace Phuket Hotel), and apparently, it’s run by the same owner– cheers to that! And for our overall verdict: We did not. Regret. At. All.

What we ordered: Green Curry pork, Thai stir fried kang kong, Tom yum soup and Grilled fish

Green Curry Pork:

Not the usual soupy green curry, the consistency of this green curry is much thicker, similar to gravy, and it is VERY flavourful. Definitely one of my favourite green curries in Thailand, but it would be better if it were soupier 🙂

Thai stir fried kang kong with pork:

The kang kong was stir fried nicely with the classic thai chilli and pork, which made the dish really flavourful. The kang kong was not too chewy and the stems adds texture to the dish, making it one of my favourite dishes. It can be a tad too spicy though, so if you can’t take the spiciness, remember to ask for less spicy!

Seafood Tom Yum Soup:

This doesn’t look amazing, but that’s the beauty of local food. They just need to taste great. (although aesthetics can be a factor at times) The tom yum soup was adequately spicy, not TOO catered to tourist tastebuds (aka non spicy tom yum soup). Really loved the tinge of sourness found in the soup and the seafood was really fresh!

Highly recommend this to all spicy tom yum lovers 😉

Grilled fish:

Forgot what fish we got, but we go the smaller one since there were only the 2 of us. The fish was grilled nicely and the skin of the fish was sprinkled with salt for the flavour to seep in. Don’t order this if you don’t eat fish/have a hard time picking out bones — try it if you have the patience to pick out the fish meat!
